Feeling the battlefield
Intuition, Affect, and Decision-Making in Military Operations
Prof. Dr. Susanne Krasmann | Hamburg, Sociology
This project examines the role of intuition and affect in the context of law and ethics in military decision-making processes. It focuses on analyzing how these dimensions are shaped within sociomaterial networks involving soldiers and algorithm-based technologies.
The project broadens existing perspectives on the emotional dimensions of military decision-making by paying particular attention to a-rational elements in combat situations and the associated processes of judgment and decision-making. Special emphasis is placed on boundary areas where questions of law and ethics overlap, as well as on the investigation of gender-related aspects in the attribution of emotionality and emotional detachment.
