“The Dark Side(s) of AI”

At the conference “The Dark Side(s) of AI“, which took place University of Siegen, 29-31 October 2026), PD Dr. Olga Matvieieva, presented the research “Drone Operator by Coercion” coauthored by with Dr. Vasil Navumau and Prof. Volker Wulf.

The presentation addressed the social dimensions of AI-enabled drone warfare and examined how wartime conditions and power compel individuals into military-technological roles and reshape patterns of labour, agency, and participation in armed conflict. By focusing on the human consequences of drone systems use, the contribution engaged with broader debates on militarisation, coercion, and the challenge of maintaining meaningful human control in contemporary warfare.
